Five new metro stations have been officially inaugurated on Metroselskabet’s M4 line in Copenhagen, Denmark, extending the service to Sydhavn and Valby.

The new stations were inaugurated by HM the King with a celebration at Mozarts Plads.

The celebration saw approximately 6,000 people gather at Mozarts Plads to witness the grand opening

Copenhagen's Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen said:

“This is a memorable day for me as Copenhagen's Lord Mayor. Each new metro station enhances our city, simplifies daily life, and promotes one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transportation. The metro simultaneously expands and connects the city. Congratulations to Sydhavnen, Valby, and all of Copenhagen.”

The M4 line extension includes five new stations: Havneholmen, Enghave Brygge, Sluseholmen, Mozarts Plads, and København Syd.

This extension connects Orientkaj in Nordhavn to København Syd in Valby, enhancing the city’s overall metro network and providing greater convenience for commuters.

Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen said:

“København Syd Station will become one of Denmark's busiest transit hubs, offering connections between Intercity trains, regional trains, S-trains, and now the metro. The station is a remarkable feat, completed on time and within budget.”

The metro network now comprises 44 stations and 43 kilometres of tracks.

The M4 extension is expected to significantly boost passenger traffic on the M3/M4 lines. Specifically, by 2030, the five new stations are expected to serve approximately eight million passengers annually.
